Cheap Domain Names – What Every Webmaster Needs To Know
To locate a web site a web browser needs some instructions on where to look for it, so a user must enter a domain name. What is entered is usually a business or site name, in the form of a descriptive word or it may be a phrase that describes what the site is about. The domain names offered at no cost by web hosting companies and those offered by companies which specialize in cheap domain names have a big difference between them. Whilst second level domains can be offered by domain name companies the domains offered by free web hosting companies are usually in the form of sub domains.
Names that are simply tacked on to the hosting company’s domain name, so that will need to be typed in as well are what we refer to as sub domains. The trouble with this is that it makes the domain name awkward to recall as it is longer then usual. Buying a new domain name will get around this difficulty. With the number of cheap domain companies it is easy to buy a web domain cheaply.
Cheap domain names can be free or they can range in price up to around seven dollars. Free domain names are usually only available in a bundle with paid for web hosting, so whilst technically free the customer is in reality still paying for it. Paying for a domain name usually means that you can get it without a bundled website hosting package. Paid for domain names are available for upwards of one dollar.
A customer must follow the same process for registering a domain name whether they bought a cheap domain name or paid a regular price. The first thing a customer needs to do is check whether their domain name is available. Doing this is easy, a customer enters the domain name that they want into the text box, and then they choose the extension that they want. They will then be given a result, if the domain is still available they can purchase it, if not they must select another. If the domain name a customer wants is already taken then some companies will offer alternative names.
Unfortunately there are down sides to using cheap domain names, a person name never receive their domain name of the company they are using is unscrupulous. The company will tell the customer that the domain will not be active immediately and that they will have to wait for some time. When the customer patiently waits for a few days and then finds that the domain still isn’t active, they also find that customer services doesn’t respond with an unscrupulous company.
A person will want to ensure that the cheap domain name company isn’t fraudulent – a good first step here is to check with the Better Business Bureau to see if the company is registered. The organization that makes sure registered businesses are operating legitimately is the Better Business Bureau. A regular land based contact system of things like a phone number and address are not usually found with a counterfeit cheap domain name company, so a good second step is to see if you can find them. Thirdly, visit some message boards that cater to webmasters and see if the company has a bad reputation there.
If no one has ever dealt with the company you may want to get alternative suggestions for a reputable company. This is the sole disadvantage to getting a domain with a reputable and cheap domain name company. Cheap domain names work in the same way as regularly priced domain, so if a person knows of a reputable cheap domain name company then they should take advantage of it.
